Norwich to Tilbury.

Supporting the Great Grid Upgrade

Delivering consultation for one of the UK’s most important pieces of new infrastructure.

National Grid’s Norwich to Tilbury project is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), part of the Great Grid Upgrade.

National Grid plans to build 184km of new electricity transmission between Norwich and Tilbury, reinforcing the high voltage power network in East Anglia, as well as connecting new offshore wind generation.

Over the past 14 years, the Camargue Group (jfd and Camargue) has supported National Grid in making the case with communities and stakeholders to bring forward the transmission infrastructure the country needs for the future.

The Camargue Group is managing communications and public consultation for the Norwich to Tilbury project, including delivering and producing collateral for 14 events across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

National Grid had essential access to a team of industry-focused copywriters and strategists, as well as creative and digital experts. jfd created a suite of consultation materials, including brochures, newsletters and exhibition panels.

Our digital team developed an interactive map using ArcGIS mapping software, integrated with the Camargue Group’s Consult Online platform, to provide accurate and scalable data that users could interact with during the consultation. People were able to view, toggle between 40 layers of data, and search for their postcode to see how the proposals could impact them. The map was displayed at events on large touchscreens.

The Camargue Group continues to support National Grid as it progresses towards the submission of a Development Consent Order (DCO) application in 2025, including additional design, digital, copywriting and communications support.
