Realising potential, transforming lives
Supporting the promotion and brand development of a new community and education centre by The University of York.
The Place, run by the University of York, is a community centre providing free activities and support for local people of all ages in a less prosperous part of the city. The Place seeks to improve the educational and social outcomes of residents who live there.
The University enlisted the help of Camargue Group (jfd and Camargue) to develop the community centre’s brand and strategy before launching in the community. Working with the University’s engagement team, we spoke to a range of stakeholders to help inform the project – and the name ‘The Place’ was born.
We created project-specific messages and underwent a collaborative and wide-ranging brand development process to deliver on The Place’s vision: improving the lives of children and young people by working in partnership with the adults who live alongside them.
In terms of creative development and branding, The Place is all about change, growth, learning and transformation. This underlying theme informed a simple ‘learning as a journey’ concept, which developed and expanded to create the new logo, a dynamic and comprehensive visual toolkit and underpinned the energy and tone of the messaging.
The Place opened in 2023 and is a valued part of the community.
